  We have uncovered a religious sect laundering money for terrorists – EFCC Chairman. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has reportedly uncovered instances of money laundering involving religious sects and bodies, the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede has disclosed. According to Olukoyede, the anti-graft agency found evidence of a religious sect in Nigeria being involved in laundering money for terrorists. Another religious organization was also implicated for protecting a money launderer when funds, suspected of being laundered, were traced to its bank account. In the course of investigating a N13 billion fraud case, the EFCC discovered that N7 billion of the total amount was linked to a religious body’s bank account. The Kano State Police Command, on Tuesday, said a 37-year-old security guard at the Prestige International College, Kano, identified as Nurudeen Shehu committed suicide. Confirming the tragedy, the state Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, disclosed to newsmen that the incident occurred inside one of the college’s classrooms. An Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, on Thursday, remanded a man, James Emmanuel, for allegedly raping a 55-year-old woman, Mrs Deborah Abiodun, to death. The 35-year-old man was arrested by the state police command for allegedly killing the woman who was his co-worker at the Oke-Odu Area, of Akure on January 17, 2024.
