The Zamfara State government stepped up its war on insecurity in the area as Governor Dauda Lawal on Wednesday formally unveiled the Community Protection Guards (CPG), designed to complement efforts of the regular security forces.   We have uncovered a religious sect laundering money for terrorists – EFCC Chairman. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has reportedly uncovered instances of money laundering involving religious sects and bodies, the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede has disclosed. According to Olukoyede, the anti-graft agency found evidence of a religious sect in Nigeria being involved in laundering money for terrorists. Another religious organization was also implicated for protecting a money launderer when funds, suspected of being laundered, were traced to its bank account. In the course of investigating a N13 billion fraud case, the EFCC discovered that N7 billion of the total amount was linked to a religious body’s bank account. Olukoyede emphasized that various religious entities, including organizations, institutions, sects, and bodies, have been implicated in money laundering activities. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement on Wednesday said the bridge would be closed on 2 February to 10 May, 2024. Osiyemi said alternative routes had been mapped out for motorists during the course of the repairs to ease their pains. He said motorists heading towards Apapa from the Bridge are to use Malu road via Mobil road U-turn to link Marine Bridge Access Ramp (Inbound Apapa) and proceed to Point Road U-turn leading into Marine Bridge (Ijora bound) and follow the Diversion at closed section. The PUNCH NEWSPAPER A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday issued a warrant for the arrest of the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Edison Ehie over his alleged involvement in the burning of the state House of Assembly. The court also ordered that Jinjiri Bala, Happy Benedict,  Progress Joseph, Adokiye Oyagiri, and Chibuike Peter also known as Rambo be arrested for allegedly participating in some criminal activities. The Kano State Police Command, on Tuesday, said a 37-year-old security guard at the Prestige International College, Kano, identified as Nurudeen Shehu committed suicide. Confirming the tragedy, the state Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, disclosed to newsmen that the incident occurred inside one of the college’s classrooms. According to Gumel, “On January 28, at approximately 10:30 am, Abdullahi Abdulsalam of Rijiyar Zaki reported that Shehu was found hanging motionless in a classroom. An Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, on Thursday, remanded a man, James Emmanuel, for allegedly raping a 55-year-old woman, Mrs Deborah Abiodun, to death. The 35-year-old man was arrested by the state police command for allegedly killing the woman who was his co-worker at the Oke-Odu Area, of Akure on January 17, 2024.
