Ancelotti will be in charge of a national team for the first time in his coaching career



Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed the new head coach of Brazil's national team, but not for another year, the Brazilian Football Confederation announced Tuesday night. He will first finish his contract with Real Madrid and join the "seleção" in June 2024 for the Copa America.


Ancelotti, 64, will be in charge of a national team for the first time in his coaching career, replacing Tite, who left the position after a quarter-finals defeat to Croatia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.


For now, Fluminense head coach Diniz will be in charge, taking over Brazil's U-20 manager Ramon Menezes, who lost two out of three friendly matches earlier this year as interim coach of the senior squad.


Diniz, 49, will keep his job at Fluminense and join Brazil only for the World Cup qualifiers. Ancelotti will then take over for the 2024 Copa America and 2026 FIFA World Cup.


The Italian will be reunited with players he has already coached, such as Vinicius Jr., Neymar Jr., Rodrygo, Eder Militao and others.

The closest Ancelotti came to coaching a national team was between 1992 and 1995, when he was an assistant to the legendary Italy manager Arrigo Sacchi.


Ancelotti was coming off an incredible career as an AC Milan player when he began his coaching cycle in charge of clubs such as the "Red and Blacks," Real Madrid, Chelsea FC, Paris Saint-Germain and more.


He leave Real Madrid after two great tenures, during which he managed to win LaLiga, UEFA Champions League, Copa del Rey, FIFA Club World Cup and other important titles.


Ancelotti is now tasked with leading Brazil to a sixth World Cup victory, which would cement the Italian as one of the greatest head coaches in history.
