NAFDAC commences serious move against alcohol in sachets, others


The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, says it has begun to enforce the ban on alcoholic beverages in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below.

Disclosing this was the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, who addressed a  press conference in Abuja, on Monday

The NAFDAC boss said it was not acceptable that some manufacturers  still had stacks of alcoholic products in the  banned packages.

She said: “This situation is of course not acceptable, and the agency views this as flagrant disobedience to the laws of Nigeria. NAFDAC views this matter seriously and will engage all statutory means, which may include prosecution, to deal with the matter.

“I want to use this medium to ask all holders of alcohol in sachets, PET and glass bottles, empty sachets, PET bottles, empty glass bottles, and other packaging materials of these banned products to immediately report to the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC for hand-over of same to NAFDAC for destruction, to prevent sterner measures including prosecution”.

The Titan’s wreckage was seen for the first time in pictures after the Coast Guard announced on 22 June that ROVs (remotely-operated vehicles) found its chambers in a sea of debris 1,600ft from the bow of the Titanic, roughly 12,000ft below the ocean surface. Pelagic Research Services, the company that operated the ROV that made the previous debris findings, said on Wednesday that its team had successfully completed off-shore operations and was now in the process of demobilisation after 10 days of work.

  Outrage as teacher allegedly flogs Lagos pupil to death THE PUNCH NEWS ONLINE Pandemonium erupted at Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School in Oko Afo, Lagos, as pupils of the school protested the demise of one of their colleagues who was allegedly flogged to death by a teacher. The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday when the deceased, identified as David Babadipo, was allegedly flogged by the teacher whose name was given as Oluwale. It was gathered that the 16-year-old who had been ill for some days was rushed to a hospital after he was flogged where he was confirmed dead. In a video seen by our correspondent on Friday, many pupils of the school could be seen running helter-skelter within the school compound and outside its premises.
